Gum Therapy

Gums are supporting structures that anchor teeth within the bone. Gum disease is seen in 90 percent of people above 40 years of age.


Causes

- Improper or poor oral hygiene.

- Improper of vigorous brushing or flossing.

- Serious disorders like leukemia, platelet disorders, diabetes mellitus or over medication can lead to weakening of gums and cause gum disease.

- Vitamin C and K deficiency, pregnancy, change in atmospheric pressure, and chemical irritants can lead to bleeding of gums.


Symptoms of gum disease

- Gums that bleed when you brush or floss your teeth.

- Red, swollen or tender gums.

- Gums that have pulled away from teeth.

- Bad breath or bad taste that does not go away.

- Pus between gums and teeth.

- Change in the way teeth fit together when you bite.

- Change in the way the partial denture fits.

Treatment

Professional cleaning of gums are initial line of treatment followed by deep cleaning and root planing. In certain cases, surgery and bone augmentation would help to solve gum problems. Only very advanced stages of gum disease are incurable. No treatment means loss of tooth. Loose gums mean loose teeth. Strengthen your gums to strengthen your teeth!
